Each vase is an active hydroponic system, with a nutrient solution supplied to the plant by pumping. The solution spills onto the plant roots and is aerated as it falls, enabling air to reach the roots and creating rainfall within the vase.

The vases are made from pyrex borosilicate glass by laboratory glass-makers and have a polished walnut stem.
